As we celebrate all the great things our father's do for us this week, we invite you to meet Stu, one of the many great members of our community. It is well worth the read just to find out how he put himself through college. Happy Father's Day to all the Cubes & Crayons dads!
What's your occupation?
Easiest answer: University Library Technology Manager
What's your favorite part of being part of the Cubes & Crayons community?
My favorite part of Cubes and Crayons is the fact that I can be productive working in the C&C offices, but I can also walk back and see my 6 month old son anytime. Its nice to know he is close by, and I can't think of a better way to spend a break from work than seeing my son for a few minutes.
What's your favorite kind of cake?
Chocolate, with vanilla icing.
What brought you to Cubes & Crayons?
Chocolate, My wife and I were in need of high quality, part-time flexible childcare. Just after our son was born a neighbor told us about Cubes and Crayons, however at that point we thought we would find a part-time nanny or family daycare center. Then, after a string of bad luck and false starts in finding the kind of care we were looking for, my wife once again heard about Cubes and Crayons from a friend in her mother's group.
Before we found Cubes and Crayons, I thought I might need to take a day or two off a week to care for my son, since my wife was returning to graduate school and we didn't have another solution. Now I am able work remotely from Cubes and Crayons two half-days a week while my wife is at school.
The Cubes and Crayons co-working model really works for us, as my employer gives me the flexibility to work remotely one day a week, and as a graduate student it is well-suited to my wife's needs. But the
main reason we've chosen Cubes and Crayons is the quality of the care. It is really quite excellent, and because parents are working in the same space as the care providers, there is ultimate accountability.
I dream that my child will grow up in a world without violent conflict, where people are good to one another. That he will live on a healthy and sustained planet, and in a society that values learning and knowledge more than things.
Something fun?
I worked my way through college as an ice cream truck driver...
