As part of being a living, breathing community, Cubes & Crayons will be featuring some of our clients on the blog. The comments below are in their words. "Meet" this wonderful family that we are delighted to have as part of the Cubes and Crayons coworking and childcare community.
What brought you to Cubes & Crayons?
My refusal to compromise and work in an office where I would not see my child for 8 hrs. + each day. If I was going to go back to work after I had my child, it had to be in a place where I could work and have my child with me all day. Going to an office and dropping her off for day care every day would not reach my goals- it would be all work and no child. Conversely staying at home with my child all day would be all child and no career. So Cubes and Crayons was the way to have the best of both worlds- a technology career and my child all in one.
What's your favorite part of being part of the Cubes & Crayons community?
Coming to work every day and interacting with a diverse group of people from many different walks of life- some are independent workers, others work for companies, some are just taking some time off. Hearing about what they do and how they manage the challenges of working and having a child is interesting and keeps giving me more ideas for my own life. And I also enjoying giving back from my experience as well; hopefully this approach will broaden a new path for workers in the next generation.
What's your occupation?
Victoria - Vice President of Sales, North America OpenCloud
About OpenCloud: Technology company focused on infrastructure software for mobile operators
OpenCloud was formed in New Zealand in 2000 to create open standard software that would revolutionize the portability and interoperability of services in telecommunications, specifically in the evolution to IP and 3G IMS. The company was founded on the vision that the use of Java within the telecommunications network would stimulate innovation, interoperability and simplicity in telecommunication infrastructure equipment. In autumn this year, OpenCloud won global consulting firm Frost & Sullivan's Product Differentiation Innovation of the Year award in the European telecommunications market.
What's your favorite kind of cake?
Vanilla with vanilla buttercream frosting (real butter buttercream, BTW)
"Nothing Happens unless you first dream" What dream would you follow?
I would move to the isle of Capri and live in a villa perched above the Med with my husband, where I could teach my daughter Italian and how to live the good life without cars, television or processed foods... and watch my husband teach our daughter tennis on the clay courts...
Other thoughts for the Cubes&Crayons community and beyond... We only live once- no goes to their final resting place wishing they spent more time at the office. Don't miss the time with your child if you can help it. It is worth more than money.
