On-demand workspace plus child care equals early success
Friday, April 18, 2008
All work and all play has made Cubes & Crayons a success.
The Menlo Park company, which offers flexible office space combined with a child-care facility, has generated lots of buzz in the media and among parenting and co-working groups alike -- not bad, considering the business has only been open since January.
"It's been very positive," says founder M. Felicity Chapman of the response from the public. Already, she's received inquiries about opening locations in cities like New York, Chicago and Paris.
Providing on-demand offices and meeting space for independent workers in addition to an on-site play space for kids was an idea born out of Chapman's desire to work and spend time with her first daughter. She couldn't find affordable, flexible care and felt cut off from the rest of the business community by working on her own as an interior designer.
